It's no secret that finding your dream job takes hard work and determination. If you're an accounting professional on the hunt for a new gig, working with a recruiter can help ensure that you find the role that's right for you.
We spoke with CyberCoders Recruiting Manager Drew Fibus, who shared his top 3 tips on how accounting job candidates can best work with a recruiter and land their dream job.
Tip #1: Prepare an up-to-date, legible resume
It doesn't matter what format you resume is in as long as it’s clean and concise. I would consider a good resume one that is well organized, clean, no more than two pages, includes dates, education, history, work history, and shows that you've stayed at a job for no less than 2 years. These are the people that always get interviews and end up getting the job. The accounting world likes to see consistency, and a resume that show 3 or 4 pages of work history is harder to work with.
Tip #2: Be open and honest
I would encourage candidates to be open and honest, especially regarding your current salary situation, from the start with your recruiter. Some folks will try to hide behind the salary discussion, but you really want to get the truth out in the open early. Some clients have certain salary ranges that they want to work in. It’s okay if you’re slightly above or below a salary range, but we want to let them know that before you start interviewing.
Tip #3: Be specific
Let recruiters know what you’re looking for specifically. “A new opportunity” is pretty vague. What are the core things that you're looking for in a job? Knowing this, recruiters make sure we have the right opportunity for you and we’re not wasting your time or the client's time.
