A lot of attention is given to Big Data these days, especially the growing need for people to organize, analyze and make use of it. But there is another side to the Big Data coin: security. As organizations collect more and more data, they must ensure that it is protected. Their good names depend on it.
So, similar to the demand for data scientists, demand for cybersecurity professionals has increased every year for the past few years. In fact, based on our analysis of more than 450,000 job ads, we found a more than 100 percent increase in overall cybersecurity jobs in the last year.
"The market demand for positions in cybersecurity continues to boom," CyberCoders CEO Heidi Golledge said. "Candidates with a cybersecurity background can expect to make $80,000 to $180,000 per year as they help either companies or the government protect their networks and data.”
That dramatic increase is on track to continue, based on our findings.
"We expect to see even more growth than what we are on track for in 2013, based on our data we predict a 30 percent increase by 2014," CyberCoders CTO Matt Miller said.
