Have you met Executive Recruiter Cody Friend, one of CyberCoders' Rockstar Recruiters?
Friend, who was born and raised in Orange County and received his BA in Business Administration from San Diego State University, knows the importance of listening and learning from his clients and candidates. "I’ve learned how crucial it is to have the right candidate in the right role within an organization. I do this by taking the time to understand the needs of both the clients and the candidates and not just checking off boxes on a resume. I listen, and then I listen some more until I am absolutely sure there is a great match."
1. Tell us a bit about what industries and positions you recruit for.
My specialty is working with companies that sell software products. To me, companies with products have a much greater need to make sure their products are being worked on 24/7. My background has always been in software sales so it resonates well with me. Plus, it helps satisfy my nerdy technology passion. As far as what types of roles I specialize in… I like to consider myself a Jack-of-all-Trades. The main areas I focus on, though, are engineering, sales, and marketing. My background aligns most with those areas.
2. Tell us about an exciting job match you made recently?
I recently picked up a lead that I heard was hiring. I called them up and talked to their CEO, and after talking with him for 30 minutes I could tell he didn’t think I could find someone that would fit their needs. I sent him ONE candidate who I thought was a rockstar that someone on my team had sent me when they heard me on the call. I sent him on a Friday, he had a phone interview the next Monday. An onsite interview on Wednesday, an offer on Thursday and he started on Friday. Not bad for one week!
3. What drives you to go above and beyond?
I have a 2 ½ year old daughter, a 7 month old son, and an amazing wife who keeps our home afloat. They’re my reason for doing what I do. They’re my reason for waking up every morning. I want to be able to give them everything in the world, and I want them to be able to say they’re proud of me.
4. What do you think separates CyberCoders from the average recruiting firm?
I’ve never worked at another agency, so I cannot compare. I know our software and our resources are second to none. I’ve worked for multiple startups and established companies in the past. The real reason CyberCoders is the best place to work is the people. Every day I love coming into work. I love competing and I love the support we have here from the top down. For a sales organization of our size, the willingness of everyone to go above and beyond to help you achieve success is amazing.
4. What is your favorite part about being a recruiter?
The relationships I’ve built with my clients and candidates. This job is amazing. What might start with a 5 minute cold call, can quickly turn into 5 years of relationship, where you know their favorite things, you know their kids birthdays, and these everyday people confide in you because of the bond you’ve been able to create. I love the idea of helping people find jobs and helping clients fill tough roles they’ve struggled to fill. It’s a win-win for both parties involved which is sometimes rare in sales.
5. What are your favorite hobbies or activities outside of the office?
I’m a homebody. I love just hanging watching my 2 young kids grow right before my eyes. It’s amazing what they’re able to do at such a young age. Besides being a Dad, I love hanging with friends and watching sports.
